The President and Founder of Triple Threat
Jeff Forney is the former major league strength and conditioning coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks, hitting coach for the Arizona Sun Devils and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The author of several manuals, videos, books, articles on hitting, strength and conditioning and also the founder of Baseball Player University, a National TV Instructional Baseball Show.
He is a recognized leader in the study of explosive movements and their specific applications for baseball. Forney brings one of the most unique combinations to the game of baseball. His ability to bring the game and its specific movements together in harmony with the proper training programs on and off the field has made him a nationally recognized authority and presenter. Jeff has presented his program around the country and has been on circuit and in teaching camps with names such as Pete Rose, Ozzie Smith, and many more.
Forney began his baseball career as an outstanding high school baseball player and all-around athlete at Science Hill High School in his hometown of Johnson City, TN. After high school he attended Roane State Junior College where he earned all-American honors and was drafted twice by the Pittsburgh Pirates (23rd round) and the Detroit Tigers (6th round) respectively. Forney decided instead to continue his collegiate career and moved to Florida to play for Florida Atlantic University.
Following his first year at FAU he was drafted in the first round by the Cincinnati Reds. He then spent the next six years as an outfielder in the Cincinnati Reds organization, last playing at the triple A level. Twice during his playing career, he was selected to minor league all-star teams. Forney graduated from Florida Atlantic University with college All-American honors and a degree in Exercise Science and Physiology. Forney was recently honored as one of the standout players in FAU history, having been named to the all-20-year All-Star Team. Working extensively in the fitness field after his playing career, he was highly touted for his work with athletes in the areas of speed development and strength training.
Using his previous training knowledge and playing experience, he began to develop his unique approach to strength and conditioning for baseball players during his first coaching position as the head assistant Baseball Coach at the University of Notre Dame.
Forney was then an assistant coach at Arizona State University for two years where he worked with the outfielders, baserunning, and hitting, as well as establishing the strength and conditioning program.
He recently established one of the most progressive strength and conditioning programs to be found in professional baseball for the Arizona Diamondbacks, from 1996-1999 before resigning his position to operate Triple Threat as a full time company and share his valuable knowledge and training system with the entire baseball community.
Forney’s philosophy is based on speed, power and agility – three key components to the success of any baseball player or athlete. This philosophy is a reflection of his 25 years plus of playing and coaching experience. His degree in exercise science and physiology gives him the additional knowledge required to develop and implement such progressive training techniques.
He is a noted author in the field of baseball strength and conditioning and hitting, with articles and books published throughout his coaching career. Along with these publications, Jeff’s company has establish one of the most progressive hitting system The ELITE Hitting System that has helped hitters reach tremendous levels of batspeed, mechanics, and exit speeds off the bat. Forney hopes to erase the old attitudes regarding training and conditioning for baseball and set into motion a newer, more sport-specific system for training today and tomorrow’s athletes.
